What the brewers say

“Explore new worlds of flavor as two American hops collide to create waves of tropically dank flavors.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Overripe pineapple, light plum, banana, suggestions of pine, moderate earthy, hint of floral. Good complexity is added with some nice malt biscuit-like sweetness.”

Flavor: “Great blend of the hops and malt sweetness in this beer. Some biscuit notes. Nice orange, mango, pineapple, and melon-like fruit sweetness. The bitterness kicks in to balance the sweetness and is a nice addition without making this too bitter. The beer is crisp and bright through the finish. Alcoholic warmth adds to the overall character without overwhelming the palate.”

Overall: “Great double IPA with some nice bright fruit characters that are showcased well. Dangerously drinkable, this high octane IPA leaves a pleasant warmth in the aftertaste that makes one want another sip. The barleywine of IPAs.”

Narrow Gauge Brewing King Fallen Flag

Peach, mango, light coconut. Grainy mouthfeel with a fairly dry finish. Esters stay on the front of the palate, so it doesn’t seem cloying. You can smell the alcohol and feel a touch of it, but the drinkability of this beer is kind of scary. Starts lightly sweet and complex, then fades into wanting another sip (or gulp).

Two Roads Brewing Co Rocket 2 Ruin Imperial Cold IPA

“Gummi bears, light strawberry, cantaloupe, raspberry, blackberry on the nose. Malt sweetness in the sip is balanced with the bitterness from the hops and ends pleasantly dry.”

Coronado Brewing Company Stingray IPA

**Aroma:** “Earthy, piney, grassy hops notes. Hint of biscuit malt. Orange peel, lemon-drop candy, hints of scallions, melon, very subtle grainy malt notes. Overall suggestion is of brightness.” **Flavor:** “Initial punch of fruity hops flavor that diminishes quickly. Tropical fruit on the tongue more than in the nose. Substantial evergreen character is a nice surprise. Good creamy mouthfeel adds to the overall palate character. Bitter finish is grapefruity and smooth. Malt plays a supporting role but doesn’t get in the way. The green-onion note sits on the tongue through the finish. A lot of spruce and pine notes.” **Overall:** “Moderately malty IIPA, very strong on the pine/resin side with a touch of citrus on the nose. A deceptively drinkable double IPA! Great blend of classic American IPA character along with some New-World flavors that make for a delightful tasting experience.”
