Melvin Brewing Cloudy 5000

What the brewers say

Hints of tropical, mango, pineapple, papaya, peach, melon, citrus, and floral. Mild lingering sweetness, slightly mineral, light bitter linger, medium body, slightly warming.

What our panel thought

Starts with a soft tropical sweetness with a heavy dose of peppercorn spice that quickly gives way to a pleasant moderate bitterness. Mango, orange, and peach dominate with an underlying lime and passion-fruit tartness to cut through the sweetness. Chewy but not cloying with a medium-dry finish.

What our editors thought

Vivid rich tropical papaya and mango notes grounded with hints of earthy fruit skin. The sip offers a touch of fruit sweetness backed by a perfectly placed light bitterness that makes the fruit pop without stealing the scene. Overall, the body is effortless.

Melvin Me, Myself &Thai

Bright citrus and floral notes; freshly cut lemons. In the flavor, massive tropical-fruit salad—papaya, mango, strawberry, and mandarin orange—sweetened with orange-blossom honey; just the right amount of sweetness to offset citrus acidity. Creamy mouthfeel and fruity flavors dominate, with only a subtle bitterness to tether it in the beer world. Very drinkable.

Great Divide Brewing Hazy IPA

Smells like freshly picked hops, a mélange of dankness, grapefruit, passion fruit, pine. Solid malt backbone balanced with smooth bitterness. Hop flavors dominate: pineapple, pine resin, diesel. West Coast flavor in a hazy IPA. Soft, pillowy mouthfeel. Pleasantly bitter, not harsh or astringent.

Ecliptic Brewing Seventh Orbit

Shining raspberries and chocolate bass note in the nose set an expectation for sweet, rich. and decadent. In the flavor, raspberry tartness, chocolate bitterness, and resinous pine clash rather than coalesce. Vegetal undertone, fruit astringency. Tart, bitter finish confuses things.
