American Solera Coolship Roadtrip

What the brewers say

"This is a multiyear blend of Spontaneous Ale, brewed at Jester King and fermented and cellared at American Solera."

What our panel thought

"Bright orange, firm white head. Layers of pepper, lemon, lime fill the nose, underlying woody Brett, spicy hops. Layers of moldering leaves and fertile earth; like being in Mirkwood. Medium body; spicy phenols alongside aggressive but balanced barnyard. Assertive lactic sourness without a burn. Remarkably complex beer. Great balance of tart lactic acid, earthy wood, and spicy pepper phenolics."

What our editors thought

"Initial burst of tires skidding on a warm road. Settles into heady mix of peach ring, sour diesel, and bearclaw pastry. Flavor skews toward a mimosa made with Muscadet wine and a splash of orange juice—bright, mineral, medium acidity, and light funky notes that keep it interesting."

Funk Factory Geuzeria The Last Four Winters...

Citrus and light berry esters, layered atop fresh-mown hay; inviting aromas that build anticipation. Whiffs of lemon, orange peel, vanilla, and touch of funk. Taste is more funky and tart than aroma suggests; sharp, earthy.

Beachwood Blendery Funk Yeah

A wonderful complementary blend of barnyard funk, assertive tartness, and acidic sourness. Aromas of leather, horse blanket, stone fruits, and oak are just as complex in flavor as they are in the nose. Flavors of grapefruit, peach, wet hay, leather, and horse blanket are all wonderfully expressed within the oak-derived tannic canvas. This beer is supremely complex and full of life with every nuanced aspect equally present and accounted for. Phenomenal!

Yazoo Brewing Co. Saison de Bois

Spicy, funky nose, with red fruit, minty phenols, overripe mango, tangerine, lemon. Citrus-juicy sweetness up front, moderate sourness; pleasant white grape, pear. Dry, woodsy finish adds to white-wine impression. Lively.
