Cruz Blanca Brewery Cruz Light

What the brewers say

“100 calories, all-malt, dry light lager.”

What our panel thought

“Great clarity. Aroma has a bit of brewer’s yeast and corn with a hint of peppery hops; cornbread-like. Grainy, moderate sweetness is light on the tongue; some would say ‘crisp.’ Fun flavors for a subtle style even if it leans a bit to the sweet side.”

What our editors thought

“Bright corn aroma with a touch of sulfur for definition. Very light in the sip, with a comfortable and familiar malt, minimal bitterness, and just a hint of sweetness to soften it. Incredibly drinkable.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery 2021 Rey Gordo

“Rich base balances toffee-like chocolate and stiff whiff of bourbon. Mega fruit nose: candied pineapple, white grapes play off cherry liqueur. In the sip, rich dark chocolate, whiskey, and warming vanillin finish. Not super sweet, not super boozy, but an elegant, delicate beer.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery Smoke Alley

“A light bready note starts off the aroma, then earthy and dank hop notes are complemented by a light dose of smoke with hints of lemon. The smoke notes carry through into the light bready flavor and add a savory character that complements the bittersweet profile. Hints of lemony citrus and and green tea add further layers. Medium-low bittering fits in well with everything else. It all finds a way to come together and work.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery Lost Mariachi

“Earthy and slightly sweet, dried-corn aroma with notes of pumpkin, crushed unripe berries. Hints of red apple. Semidry finish with lingering earthy, rustic sun-dried corn and floral hop notes. Moderate bitterness. Finishes dry and crisp.”
