Ecliptic Brewing Tucana Tangerine Sour Ale

What the brewers say

“A bright twist of tangerine plays nicely with the balanced tartness and dry finish.”

What our panel thought

“Strong tangerine aroma is disorienting, with significant hop bitterness in the sip. Zesty and beaming flavor profile, with a faint malt structure underneath. Restrained lactic acid.”

What our editors thought

“A curiously malty nose offers a departure from the stylistic norm, highlighted by bright citrus hits. The flavor continues to meld malt and fruit elements, but a strong citrus acidity hits with a shock of muddled lime and orange. An earthy element weighs it down.”

Oskar Blues Brewery Guava Rodeo Sour Ale

“Strong guava in the flavor despite a weaker show in the nose. The flavor is bright, lightly tart guava with a long tropical tangerine finish. Neither the guava nor the tangerine overpowers. A bit of orange pith in the finish adds complexity.”

Full Sail Brewing Co KYLA Ginger Tangerine

Aroma is strongly ginger-forward, reminding one of Jamaican-style ginger ale. Light citrus notes float in the background. Solid head. Hazy, with a light yellow-green tint (like Squirt or Fresca soda). High carb. Clean and refreshing. Ginger is solid and in control, but not as fiery as ginger can get. Tangerine notes contribute to the acidity, with a faint citrus halo in the aftertaste. Ginger starts to carry a bit of a bitter note after some drinking, but it’s not unpleasant. Finish is dry with the ginger lingering awhile. The kombucha base provides some tannic earthiness. Very drinkable.

Ecliptic Brewing Starburst IPA

Enticing, sweet, bright nose: lemon peel, lemon drop candy, orange, grapefruit, light malt. Tastes sweet up front—nicely balanced bready malt drawing out orange-grapefruit—rolling into firm bitterness, getting slightly rough in the finish and lingering. Low alcoholic heat as it warms. Want the hop flavors to sing louder.
