Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Danish Red Lager

What the brewers say

“Our classic Vienna-style lager. Double-decocted, with all European malts and hops. This brew is smooth and comforting.”

What our panel thought

“Deep golden to light amber in color, brilliantly clear with a full head that sticks around. Light graham cracker character in the aroma and taste. Classic malty nose with hints of honey, toast, light citrus, and perfume. Medium to full mouthfeel; smooth, sweet malty character, with hints of toast, dark bread and balanced Noble hops. A clean muted bitter finish leaves a great impression. Great traditional European qualities to this one. Very well balanced and smooth. Easy-drinking, but full-flavored with a skillful balance.”

What our editors thought

“Warming sweetness in the nose with an almond-toffee element. The sip is light and bright, dry and clean, with an endearing rich malt note that defies gravity.”

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Figueroa Mountain Mosaic

“Brilliantly clear. Mango, banana, pineapple on the nose. Peach, hay, and lemongrass flavor-wise, with a crisp bread-crust malty backbone. Very clean finish with a light lingering bitterness. Very inoffensive, solid pale ale.”

East Brother Beer Company Red Lager

Hints of light roast, green coffee up front with notes of dried cherry, leather. Carmel comes through with a bit of dark toasted bread on the nose. Slight prune slides in toward the end of the aroma. Drinks easily with chocolate and lots of lightly roasted coffee. Some bitterness to cut the residual sweetness.

KC Bier Co. Weizenbock

“Bread-crust and wheat notes provide a complex malt aroma, with just a hint of floral hops and banana esters. The flavor is big, with bread crust and honey-like notes, and just a hint of apricot and floral hop bitterness.”
