What the brewers say

“Fightin’ Phils American light lager.”

What our panel thought

“Hint of poppy seeds at the outset—herbal—blends with an impression of toasted bread or bagel that carries over into the flavor. The flavor is surprisingly neutral, at least on the malt front, with an unexpected richness accented by corn sweetness. There are residual sugars but little maltiness to speak of. A bit of grassy floral hop character. High carbonation with a crisp finish.”

What our editors thought

“Woody floral and slightly fruity aroma. The flavor leans sweet, with a brief bitter jab and an acidic lime bite.”

Wren House Brewing Company Valley Beer

“Fairly neutral malt aroma and muted with low floral hops, subtle esters, and a late apple note. Light acidity and then corny and grainy malt. Notes of red apple and pear. Light hop bitterness. Semidry finish.”

Larrabee Lager Company Northtown Pilsner

“Promises rich malty flavors from the outset. Becomes more complex in the mouth, with subtle yeast-doughy flavors. Soft Italian oregano Noble hops with a touch of grass. Moderate bitterness up front, a sweet toasty malt with some underlying plum.”

Imprint Beer Company Moda

“A light floral, herbal, stone-fruit nose with a subtle, sweet cereal aspect. Flavor has a light bread-dough malt backbone with a slightly murky set of herbal, floral, earthy, and spicy flavors. Well-balanced bitterness into a short finish. As the beer warms, some light stone-fruit character appears. Body could perhaps be a touch fuller. Carbonation on the higher end.”
