Left Hand Brewing India Pale Ale

What the brewers say

“Pale orange, light maltiness. Hops profile of orange, passion fruit, peach, and lemon.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Pine, honeydew, and resin. Light grapefruit.”

Flavor: “Resinous dank hops up front that lead into a low malty sweetness. Balanced decidedly toward sticky grapefruit-forward hops. Good amount of bittering hops bring the clean malt sweetness into balance.”

Overall: “This is a really good night-capper—strong, bitter, slightly dank, and heavy pine flavors to end the night with. A hophead’s delight in both flavor and bitterness. The dryness really amplifies the drinkability.”

12 West Brewing Company Super Beaker

“Light tropical notes of mango and lemon-lime provide an aromatic greeting. The flavor grounds the tropics with a moderately strong bitterness that lingers into a lasting, lime-gilded aftertaste. Moderate resin and black-pepper hop flavor backed by lighter fruity peach and mango.”

Three Floyds Brewing Company Zombie Dust

**Aroma:** “Some wonderful fruit notes of blackberry, peach, fresh blueberry, mango, and pineapple balanced against light onion notes and an almost white-wine character. Very resinous, catty and fruity offset with a dank and grassy earth character.” **Flavor:** “Hops present complex fruit notes with a little more citrus character. The onion notes are there too, but not overpowering and provide depth and contrast. Drinks super clean and malt and hops are in balance. Juicy hops flavors up front, reminiscent of grapefruit and pine, along with tropical fruit notes and an appropriate level of bitterness. Finishes dry and clean.” **Overall:** “A very creative beer with a unique, beautiful, and delicious hops profile. Nice dry, balanced base beer with enough malt backbone to support but not crowd the hops, interesting hops profile that showcases both piney, resinous, dank flavors with classic American citrus notes and tropical fruit hops flavors, and a very clean fermentation profile to boot. Extremely drinkable thanks to lower bitterness but no doubt about it, the hops are the belle of the ball. Buy by the case—it’s an excellent example of the style.”

Green Bench Brewing Co. India Pale Ale

__Aroma:__ “Blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, orange, lemon, mango, pine, and herbal are all well blended and pleasant. Light bready and bread-crust malt, almost like a flour tortilla.” __Flavor:__ “Well balanced with significant fruit character from the hops. Citrus and red berry with a touch of mango and grassy/herbal to top things off. The malt is clean and supporting as it brings a slight toasted bready character. Bitterness lingers with a touch of coating sweetness.” __Overall:__ “Nice berry-forward fruity aroma with some supporting citrus and grassy. Maybe a bit sweet up front, but the bitterness balances it well and isn’t harsh at all. All of the pieces fit together well. Very drinkable.”
