King Harbor Brewing Co Topside Pilsner

What the brewers say

German-style pilsner brewed with heirloom malt and a blend of Tradition and Saphir hops.

What our panel thought

Classic, compelling aroma—a matrimony of perfume-like Noble hops, crackery malt, and pleasant minerality. That balance carries into the sip, with a back-and-forth between oyster-cracker malt and firm hop-bitterness that slashes any recollection of sweetness. Smoother than silk.

What our editors thought

A finely pointed woody-herbal nose has a bit of cracker malt behind it—balanced on the lightest edge. The initial sip is a bit sweet and heavy, but a bitter hit on the swallow gives it a boost.

Brick West Brewing Company Brick West Czech Pilsener

Wonderful hop-driven nose, soft and herbal, with sweet malt notes. Moderate herbal bitterness, delicate, with an almost tea-like tannin. Bitter and crisp into a moderately dry finish. That bitterness builds, slightly resinous but not harsh. Nicely done. I'd neck it from the bottle.

Seedstock Brewery Czech Pilsner

Brilliantly clear pale gold. Spicy hop aroma; more subtle lemon-lime and herb notes mingle with sweet bread rolls. Light vegetal notes lurk. Light pilsner-malt sweetness integrated with spicy hop flavor; moderate bitterness helps dry out the finish. Leans soft, sweet, and doughy. Finishes clean.

Rockwell Beer Company Stand By

Nose like a fresh-mowed lawn, with intoxicating lemon rind and botanical notes. Firm bitterness, lightly toasted honey-like malt sweetness, with some pink-lemonade hop flavor. Light chalkiness. Dry finish. Fun, moderate twist that is close to classic. Would pound one after another at the bar with friends.
