Maplewood Brewing Company Lounge Lager

What the brewers say

“A lager brewed with 6-row barley, and Midwestern flaked corn. Crisp and refreshing.”

What our panel thought

“A puff of sulfur on the nose. Moderate hop bitterness with a very slight sweetness. Light, neutral grain flavor with a little sweet corn on the back, but finishes clean and dry with a bit of a carbonic bite. Bitterness presents itself in a light earth, dry dirt flavor, accentuating the sulfur note.”

What our editors thought

“Toasted orange peel and warm almost oaky notes in the nose. The sip is a touch thin and downplays the energy of the nose.”

Larrabee Lager Company Northtown Pilsner

“Promises rich malty flavors from the outset. Becomes more complex in the mouth, with subtle yeast-doughy flavors. Soft Italian oregano Noble hops with a touch of grass. Moderate bitterness up front, a sweet toasty malt with some underlying plum.”

Wren House Brewing Company Valley Beer

“Fairly neutral malt aroma and muted with low floral hops, subtle esters, and a late apple note. Light acidity and then corny and grainy malt. Notes of red apple and pear. Light hop bitterness. Semidry finish.”

Dutchess Ales GB Pale Ale

Earthy, herbal, grassy hop aroma with mild fruit and light toasty malt. In the flavor, nice balance between assertive hop bitterness, earthy-piney hop flavor, and toasty-bread malt. Super drinkable. Lasting bitterness. Could enjoy several. This hits the numbers.
