New Anthem Beer Project BA'AL

What the brewers say

“Pale and a heavy load of malted wheat. Citra and Loral Cryo. Pineapple and citrus.”

What our panel thought

“Dank nose, with low hints of grapefruit pith and orange peel popping out of the glass. Big tropical punch, fruity, with some alcohol heat. Appearance is total orange-juice haze. Not over the top—balanced sweetness with the fruit character and a decent bitter base to hold everything together. Complex and rich throughout. Silky mouthfeel all the way through the finish with that ABV well hidden in the background.”

What our editors thought

“Spiky herbal edge to the nose—snappy, with light funky mango and papaya notes. The sip is not overly sweet but hints at some mango sweetness, while a bit of pithy tropical bitterness provides the foil. An almost saison-like crispness underlies the fruit, not quite _Brettanomyces, _but a cutting floral note in that direction. The definition is impressive, giving up nothing in drinkability while highlighting the fruit.”

New Anthem Beer Project Clapback

Solid grapefruit, lime, tangerine, lychee, bright orange aroma. Light grassy hints. Extra orange in the flavor, creating impression of heavily hopped OJ—with gentle pine and vegetal notes. Solid malt flavor and sweetness balance hops well. Smooth, approachable bitterness, medium-full body. Breakfast, anyone?

New Anthem Brewing Songs Unsung

The appearance of this beer begs the name to have the word ‘cloud’ in it. Deep golden haze with a billowy head. Wonderful nose with a blend of citrus and tropical fruits. Compelling flavor profile filled with a blend of orange, peach, pineapple, and guava. Soft pillowy body with a more assertive finish that brings some bitterness to the table to scrub the palate for another sip. Slight hops burn. Pretty awesome beer for which we would gladly regularly reserve a spot in our fridge.

Press Hard Seltzer Blackberry Hibiscus

Brilliantly clear. Sugary, fruit-forward, berry-candy nose—like grape soda mixed with raspberry. Flavor is surprisingly sweet—not quite cloying, but strong and lingering; seems artificial. Reminds me of peach tea. Essence-forward. Very candy-like. Not very drinkable.
