New Anthem Beer Project Thought Police

What the brewers say

“Citra, Vics, Centennial. Pale, oats, rye malt.”

What our panel thought

“Dank, citrus tropical aroma absolutely pops, like fresh hop pellets. Pillowy mouthfeel with a bit of minerality, presents nicely without going over the top. The base beer is so well done. Bitterness a little too assertive. Landed more West Coasty in the end, despite the looks.”

What our editors thought

“Orange-forward nose with a cutting white floral note, fresh and bold. Flavor is orange-forward too, with bright floral blossom notes maintaining the fresh edge.”

New Anthem Beer Project Dance Floor Heater

Surprisingly Noble-like aroma, plus lime rind and pith. Nicely balanced flavor. Malt sweetness plays well with funky hops—an intermingling of citrus, tropical fruit, and grassy notes. Dry finish, lingering bitterness. The more I drink, the more it really grows on me.

Eastlake Craft Brewery Nicollet Mauler Black IPA

“Aromas of cocoa and coffee mingle with piney hops. Flavor boasts big dark chocolate with classic IPA bitterness. Clean astringency that’s just this side of too dry. Prickly bitter hop presence on a soft bed of roasty malt.”

New Anthem Beer Project BA'AL

“Dank nose, with low hints of grapefruit pith and orange peel popping out of the glass. Big tropical punch, fruity, with some alcohol heat. Appearance is total orange-juice haze. Not over the top—balanced sweetness with the fruit character and a decent bitter base to hold everything together. Complex and rich throughout. Silky mouthfeel all the way through the finish with that ABV well hidden in the background.”
