pFriem Family Brewers New Avenues Blend #1

What the brewers say

"Offers notes of Riesling, pine, marzipan, and blackberry jam."

What our panel thought

"Fruit character pops out of the glass. Grapes just balance the strong berry notes. Light funk, medium acidity. The marionberry and Riesling play off each other, and the raspberry doesn’t overpower. Approachable and drinkable."

What our editors thought

"Rich dark raspberry and a light vinous note combine for a light red-wine note in the nose backed by just a touch of lambic-style funk. The sip is dark, rich, savory, umami, and slightly sweet—a textural experience on top of the rich taste."

TRVE Brewing Co. Meditation is the Practice of Death

Rich fruit character, though not distinctly cherry; also Brett, wood, and earth. Lack of head suggests wine. Oak character adds pleasant light spiciness, with fruit fermentation esters; tart, with berry notes. Subtle yet complex.

West Sixth Brewing Sixfold VI: Blackberries

Ripe blackberry nose with additional layers of oak and cherries atop an underlying barnyard Brett character. Well-balanced mouthfeel. Initial jammy berry flavor quickly overtaken by strong oak, which becomes dominant. A wood beer with fruit flavor.

PFriem Family Brewers Oud Bruin Kriek

Delicate raspberry-citrus aroma, with barrel funk and crushed lemons in an old wooden pail. Flavor brings dark fruit, tart cherry, red currant, tomato—nicely balancing malty sweetness and acidity. Balsamic edge tickles the tonsils. Delicate, smooth finish.
