New Holland Brewing Hazy River

What the brewers say

“Smooth and juicy, brewed with 100 percent Citra hops. ... A beautiful hazy-golden appearance.”

What our panel thought

“Light spicy nose, reminiscent of a Belgian pale ale with grass, geranium, and pepper qualities. Rounded body, fairly sweet mid-palate, which gives it a somewhat heavy impression. Missing definition throughout; the pieces to the puzzle are there but do not come together.”

What our editors thought

“A nondescript nose leads to gentle peach-banana in the sip, with an almost baby food–like mealy element. A lingering earthy pineapple bitterness marks the finish, but it’s tame at best.”

New Holland Brewing Tangerine Space Machine

“Frothy white head, hazy, fruit juice–like appearance. Citrus peel, pink lemonade, tart grapefruit, lemon, tangerine in the nose. The flavor is straight up tangerine IPA. However, it is balanced nicely with medium bitterness. Medium bitterness, orange-candy flavor linger into the quick and clean finish.”

Terrapin Beer Hoppin’ Bubbly

Toast and light fruit up front, pleasant and relatively delicate. Lush strawberry and hints of orange peel. Dry-ish on the finish but not as bracing as a lot of versions of the style. Finish has great balance with lingering pine bitterness.

Prison City Brewing Super Modified

“Lemon and orange dominate the nose. Sweet melon in the flavor with a slight sharp pineapple bite in the middle that lingers into the finish, joined by a pink lemonade. The balance tips toward an effervescent sweetness that lingers on the tongue.”
