Odell Brewing Co Drumroll Hazy Pale Ale

What the brewers say

Each year we select the rock-star hops of the harvest to craft this bold, juicy, tropically hop-forward brew, drumming up a citrus-inspired rhythm for what’s to come.

What our panel thought

Robust head. Dank, tropical aroma with an ashy note. In the flavor, tropical and citrus fruit dominate—a Limoncello bite, with grainy malt backbone that stands up well to the bitterness and juicy flavor. Easy sipper. Great sweet-bitter balance. Very approachable.

What our editors thought

Bright, bubbly, outgoing nose—lemon, tangerine, yuzu, passion fruit. The sip brings it back to earth with touches of tropical-fruit funk and a woody hop bitterness. Interesting contrasts create tension more than division.

“Hints of orange, pineapple, and pine with a nice pepper-like spice create an inviting nose. Flavor moves into star fruit and mango with ever-present dankness. Balance of the malt sweetness and tropical bitterness is spot on.”

Odell Brewing Drumroll APA

Aroma: “Mild bitterness with light malt sweetness. Earthy-spicy lemon hops character, slightly grassy, very mild cracker malt. Some nice pine aroma, with stone fruit: peaches and cherry. With time, more citrus comes through.” Flavor: “Citrus is strong enough here to hit first, with an earthy, somewhat grassy, backdrop. Nice soft, grainy, and subtly sweet malt character. The hops pair well and add spicy and light citrus notes. Finishes super dry and slightly bitter with light cherry notes.” Overall: “Nice citrus character, almost delicate throughout, the aroma is really enticing with hints of lemon, pepper, and toasted malt. The flavor is similar, even if in the finish those flavors run together and miss the clarity of the best in this style.

Firestone Walker Brewing Co STiVO

“Pale yellow in color, unfiltered, with a nice bright white head that lingers. Bright floral hop aroma with a touch of dank in the background. Pleasant soft citrus in both the aroma and flavor is tempered by a moderate and very clean bitterness. A lifting herbal and light melon citrus hop flavor builds, but just when it’s about to reach the upper limit, it lets off the gas and the grainy malt starts to come into balance. Slightly minerally, with a clean, dry finish. Overall, a very fresh and soft quality with a quick and clean finish. Well-crafted with no flaws. Aggressive without hitting the limit.”
