Peculier Ales Maple Confessions

What the brewers say

English Barleywine aged for 18 months in a barrel that previously held whiskey, vanilla imperial stout, and maple syrup.

What our panel thought

What our editors thought

Black body with no color around the edges and minimal head. Port wine, fig, plum, and bready caramel notes in the aroma. Sweet body driven by caramel and milk chocolate alongside a top note of maple, balanced by notes of tobacco, black pepper, and a slight tannic woody note. Elegant and refined, rich without cloying or pandering, it's assured but accessible.
