Pontoon Brewing Company IPA or Whatever

What the brewers say

“Features Mosaic hops to give piney, tropical, and citrus notes.”

What our panel thought

“Muted aroma—light pine, pepper, diesel, along with pineapple and grapefruit. Resinous hops twine with slightly nutty malt. Solid toast notes evident with some warmth. Light peach or apricot ester. Finish is a touch sweet and caramelly.”

What our editors thought

“Peanut butter with nut and caramel notes in the nose, topped by a light orange marmalade. The sip continues the nutty, orange thread, with medium bitterness. If there were an ounce more flab, it wouldn’t work, but the lean approach delivers.”

MadTree Brewing Brunch So Hard

Pretty pink color. Generic red fruit up front in the aroma. It comes across a bit like raspberry. Lemon comes through a bit more in the flavor. There’s slight sour in the finish as well from the hibiscus. Medium light body and dry finish.

Omission Bright Eyed IPA

“Light Earl Grey tea and wort aroma. The hop aroma is a bit muted, but the flavor delivers the hops and has a medium level of supporting bitterness. Clean and refreshing with medium-high carbonation and a semidry finish.”

SweetWater Brewing Company IPA

__Aroma:__ “Big orange with a touch of pine and mint in the background. Some grapefruit and lemon on the second whiff. Some sweetness hits in the back. Big complex hops aroma: white grape, melon, a bit of lemon, a bit of iris, white pepper, and thyme. A bit of bready malt in the background.” __Flavor:__ “Great hops presentation without being heavy handed. Malt supports without being sweet. Hops profile is a tasty blend of orange and pine with a simple malt backbone beneath. The orange has some sweetness with orange peel bitterness. Light hops flavor reprises the floral aroma and adds some citrus. Well balanced for the style.” __Overall:__ “The orange flavor is nice, and the bitterness works well with the hops complexity. Refreshing. Right down the pipe for West Coast. This one has the pint-after-pint bonus for me.”
