Prison City Brewing Riot Down Undah

What the brewers say

“Hopped with Galaxy, Nelson, and Waimea. Full bodied with big pineapple, mango notes.”

What our panel thought

“Sweet pineapple and mandarin orange in the aroma, with low cookie-like malt. Dank notes and some citrus pith. Flavor is clean and crisp, with a pleasant orange rind–oil flavor and hints of bright tomato. Zesty, somewhat juicy. Finish is well-balanced”

What our editors thought

“Dried mango on the nose, almost powdery with a vague sweet- potato element. On the sip, mango and pineapple collide with an earthy undertone and a bit of grilled-pineapple char. While fruity, it’s firmly grounded.”

Alma Mader Brewing Levels: Citra//Riwaka

“Complex aroma: sweet fruits, ripe orange, touch of floral, some dank. Flavor blends the aroma’s hop aspects well. Well-balanced with bitterness to keep it crushable. Just a touch thin. Semi-dry finish with a lingering fruity diesel hoppy aftertaste.”

Hints of peach, pineapple, and passion fruit complement the distinct citrus- and pine-forward hops aromas. The soft mouthfeel and subtle malt sweetness are a nice canvas on which to express the tangerine, lemon, and pine hops flavors, with hints of onion, green pepper, and garlic. The alcohol is sneaky but present, with a faint note of boozy warmth.

Drake's Brewing Co. Crispy Boi Lager

“Super-dank nose; bright citrus. Big burst of flavor; clean pale malt provides a honey-like base for resinous hops to play. Fades fast and dry. Somewhat one dimensional—but quite a good dimension.”
