What our panel thought

Aroma: “: Juicy, dank, resiny hops aroma with a hint of spice and citrus. Light malt sweetness. Very aromatic with peach jelly, black currant, and grapefruit leading the charge. A touch of herbal, minty notes adds complexity without detracting. Clean yeast and malt character.”

Flavor: “Bright, juicy, dank hops dominate with hints of grapefruit and a subtle mango/pineapple note, but not as much bitterness as I was expecting from the aroma. Light, clean malt sweetness. Nice dry finish with a pleasant bitterness that doesn't seem to linger. A very full chewy IPA, with a wheat-like turbidity. Alcohol presence lends a warming finish. Bitter enough to pull it all together, without overpowering.”

Overall: “Very different aroma and flavor profiles, but nice complexity with fruit, pine, and resin. Very contemporary example of the style, focusing more on the dank, resiny, tropical fruit hops than on straight citrus and pine. Huge hops complexity with the malt and yeast only supporting, not competing. Great body and finish that makes it smooth drinking and pleasant.”

New Image Brewing Co Levels 2.2

“Aroma is papaya-orange-guava all the way. Sweeter than average, with just enough bitterness to pull it together. Well-balanced body. Flavor comes across similar to the nose in a fruity way: pineapples and candied tangerines.”

Lawson’s Finest Liquids Triple Sunshine IPA

Fruit-forward with lemon, white grape, orange, and a bit of pineapple. A bit of bread and a hint of toast. A bit of grass and grapefruit as it warms. Quite a bit of white wine super-late in the retronasal. Alcohol is evi-dent but kind of fruity and not harsh.

Deschutes Brewery Pinedrops IPA

**Aroma:** “Floral aroma—almost lavender—with a light lemony background. Floral fades as it warms, and it morphs into more of a citrusy grapefruit. Some pear cocktail with lemon rind and even tangerine notes up front. A touch catty and floral but gives way to resinous piney notes.” **Flavor:** “Very strong lemony flavor— bright and citrus-focused with light floral flavors in the finish. Not at all what I was expecting based on the aroma. The finish has a lingering bitterness that borders on astringent. Some catty, black currant notes and just a hint of malt sweetness.” **Overall:** “Despite the weird and overpowering aroma, I was pleasantly surprised to find a powerful, lemon-focused hops flavor with enough bitterness to keep the malt profile in check. Shows flashes of greatness, but the high bitterness detracts from the overall. Dial back the IBUs to make it a bit more drinkable and I’ll buy a lot.”
