Terra Nova Beer Co Bear in a Cage

What the brewers say

“Potent power encaged in a bouquet of hoppiness.”

What our panel thought

“Sauvignon blanc, honey, Lemonheads, thyme, pineapple, sage in the aroma. Neutral malt character lets the hop character shine and bring similar notes as the nose. Well-hidden alcohol. Relatively low bitterness. Medium alcohol tickles the tongue. Slight dankness.”

What our editors thought

“Sweet and saturated peach and pineapple aroma, with a touch of mineral undertone. Big flavor notes of the same, with a pointed mineral note and a ranging but balanced bitterness.”

Terra Nova Beer Co A Cold Embrace

“Lemon tea up front, subtle melon and jasmine, white peach and stone fruit in the flavor. The nose is stingy, only letting a little bit of pine slip out. The flavor offers a little more with nice citrus stepping forward in the mix, along with some hop astringency. Finishes quick and bitter with fleeting foam.”

Burial Beer Co Too Much To Bear Cuvee of Cognac, Bourbon, and Calvados Barrel-Aged Strong Ales

“Dark fruit, light caramel, and whiskey in the nose. Burnt toast and bitter dark malts lead into a sweet, deep butterscotch finish. Huge chocolate and roast notes, stone fruit mixed with subtle leather.”

Upland Brewing Teddy Bear Kisses

__Aroma:__ “A nice medium roast on the nose, with secondary notes of bitter and semisweet chocolate. There’s a fair amount of caramel and dark toffee on the nose that pairs nicely with the roast, but the earthy aroma at the back really dominates. Initially, it almost comes across as a chocolate latte.” __Flavor:__ “Bitter chocolate covers the mouth with some extreme roast character, which gives it a slight wood and tobacco presence. The roast really dominates with a chewy flavor, as if biting into an espresso bean−laced dark chocolate bar. The mouthfeel is fantastic, and coats the cheeks. Finishes with hoppy bitterness, cigar, and tobacco notes.” __Overall:__ “A very good beer. The chocolaty sweetness comes through on the nose and holds on just long enough to balance the roast and cigar notes.”
