Odell Brewing Company Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA
Aroma: “Subtle peach aroma blends well with the bready malt sweetness and comes out more as it warms. A pleasant estery quality, with notes of blueberry and strawberry. Mild sulfur and smoky phenol, with floral, earthy, and herbal notes from the hops, with a grassiness that gives it an almost Belgian quality.”
Flavor: “The juiciness and fruitiness of the peach come through much more on the flavor, with the herbal and grassy hops playing more of a supporting role. Lots of sweetness up front for an IPA from the bready malts, which also work to support the fruity esters. Floral hops flavors are present, but not enough bitterness for an IPA. The finish is dry.”
Overall: “This is a really good beer, but it’s hard to call it an IPA because the hops are so subtle and there’s virtually no bitterness—10 more IBUs and twice the aroma would help. The peach was nicely blended. Style aside, the beer is very drinkable.”
