Two Roads Brewing Co Espressway Cold Brew Coffee Stout

What the brewers say

“Oatmeal stout with an Ethiopian/Sumatran blend of coffee beans.”

What our panel thought

“Hints of roast malt and smoke complement dark-roast coffee in the nose. The coffee-imparted flavors (chocolaty, spicy, lightly fruity) blend well with the roast and burnt-caramel malt flavors, creating a well-balanced, complex, coffee-forward flavor profile. Finishes lightly dry with a pleasant bitterness.”

What our editors thought

“Bold classic coffee aroma with peanut undertones that carry through into the flavor. Light in the sip with a faint sweetness and a whiff of husky malt.”

Two Roads Brewing Co Espressway

“Natural hazelnut coffee with brown roasted malt notes push up against low grainy cereal aromas. The bitter roast amplifies the bitterness created by the earthy and pine-like hops, with hints of coffee in the background. The finish is drying, further accentuating bitterness.”

Two Roads Brewing Espressway Coffee Stout

Fantastic, intense coffee presence—subtle, almost fruity, without vegetal or ashy character. Somewhat thin; layers of coffee and more coffee balancing an understated stout—pleasant, dry, bitter. Finishes smooth. More sweetness would help round things out.

Arizona Wilderness Brewing Superstition Coffee Stout

“Hints of chocolate, toffee, vanilla complement fresh-roasted coffee notes in the nose. In the flavor, coffee notes balance well with a slightly sweet body and light acidity. Subtle vanilla smooths out the flavors. Finish is a touch watery but still leaves you wanting another drink.”
