Von Ebert Brewing Islands in the Stream

What the brewers say

“Can-conditioned saison brewed with white wheat, triticale, and pilsner malt.”

What our panel thought

“Tropical soap perfume—papaya, melon, dried peach, and strawberry—meld with pepper and clove spice. The malt sweetness carries pleasantly complex hop notes that combine hints of old-school Noble character with a fun tropical twist. There’s just enough phenolic spice to round things out, and the dry finish is a pleasant palate cleanser.”

What our editors thought

“Quirky and clever mix of traditional saison herbal and floral notes with a very light contemporary tropical-fruit edge. In the sip, the aspirin note is buffered by softer tropical edges—mango and papaya with just a touch of citrus. Subtle, but entertaining.”

REVIEWS FOR YOU >

Hill Farmstead Florence

Soft nose of tangerine, white grape, lemon, pineapple, subtle grain, light crackery malt—nothing strong, but citrus-forward. Nuanced, moderate acidity, lightly fruity with hints of watermelon, citrus, with a juicy quality.

Wiley Roots Funk Yo Couch Nelson Sauvin

Gin, grapefruit pith, lemon peel, low oak, and background funk. Earthy, citrus-forward funk carries into huge tropical-fruit flavor. Harmonious. Some gentle acidity brightens the flavors. The Brett brings it all together. Digging this.

Central Standard Brewing Gamma Squeeze

Heady bud nose, bright, with a slight tinge of lime. Flavor is like hop juice, a fistfight between tropical fruit and bitterness; skunky, gassy, with light licorice and a slight burn. A bit muddy. Super creative, even for an inherently creative style.
