Andechser Weissbier Dunkel

What the brewers say

“Hallertau aroma hops and highest-quality Bavarian wheat and dark barley malts.”

What our panel thought

“Rich toffee malt complexity with a pleasant underlying spiciness. Dried-fruit notes with a leathery dry finish. The spicy fermentation character balances nicely through the finish and is accentuated by lively carbonation. Lots of dark malt complexity without being overly rich or heavy.”

What our editors thought

“Light toasty wheat-bread nose with hints of honey and pine forest in the summer sun. On the sip, doughy with bit of sweet caramel and orange peel.”

Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat (2018)

“Bready aroma with a light fruity note and hints of an underlying candy-like sweetness. Slightly tart, reminiscent of green apples or cider—weird for the style but not unpleasant or off-putting. The dry finish ties the beer together with a lingering toasty note and minimal bitterness.”

Epic Brewing Intermountain Wheat

“Light bready notes and hints of orange in both the aroma and the flavor. Very light hopping is mostly floral with a hint of tropical guava. Low bitterness.”

Wibby Moondoor Dunkel

Aroma: “A lively combination of light roasts of coffee, toast, and chocolate. It’s joined by a subtle earthy and spicy hops aroma mixed with dried cherries and a hint of corn. All well-balanced and coming off as clean.” Flavor: “The malt has some nice toffee and dark cherry character, but it’s a bit overwhelmed by the roast astringency that overpowers things a bit. Some caramelized sweetness dances around to help mellow it overall. The finish is dry, with lingering coffee and grassy hop bitterness.” Overall: “Toastier than a biergarten in August, but some surprising hops aromatics that complement the roasted aromas and flavors nicely.”
