The final three Beer Camp festivals were slated for this past weekend, and those who attended the first four are raving about every last one of the 12-pack beers. Today Myron’s Walk, a Belgian-style pale ale brewed in collaboration with Allagash Brewing Company gets the spotlight.

“We looked at [the collaboration] fairly simply,” says Jason Perkins, the brewmaster at Allagash, “What are things that define Sierra Nevada and things that define Allagash? Let’s build a beer around commonalities of our beers.

Allagash makes Belgian-style beers, and in Perkins’s opinion Sierra Nevada makes “the best representation of a pale ale in the entire world.” So when it came time to create a beer that represented the two trademarks of these breweries, a pale ale fermented with the house yeast from Allagash seemed only natural.

“We wanted to showcase hops as well,” adds Perkins, “fairly heavily using Sierra Nevada’s torpedo. It’s a dry-hopping device that looks like a torpedo—it’s like a French press for hops.”

Whole-cone Citra and Mosaic hops were used in Myron’s Walk, a beer named after Myron Avery, the founder of the Appalachian Trail. The 2,200-mile trail starts near Sierra Nevada’s new Mills River, North Carolina, brewery and ends near Allagash in Maine. Check out this video of the beer at Avery Peak.

With Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across America tour over, the only thing left to do will be to open the doors at Sierra Nevada’s new North Carolina location. Stay tuned for more about the opening.
