AleSmith Brewing Co KickBackRelax

What the brewers say

“Packed with Mosaic and Citra, giving it notes of citrus and pineapple.”

What our panel thought

“Clean and bright. Inviting dank, artisanal pine soap in the nose. More dank pine in the flavor and just enough malt backbone to give some balance. More citrus and bubblegum hop flavors as it warms. Great mouthfeel. A pleasant amount of bitterness lingers on the tongue. A deft hand balanced these flavors.”

What our editors thought

“Perfumey nose with orange blossoms and a light honey note. Light, like a buzz cut—high and tight, clean and ordered, quick herbal-tea finish.”

Societe Brewing Company The Coachman

“Aroma offers tropical fruit mixed with dank and catty, lightly bready malt. That combination persists into the flavor, but the intensity lessens. Fruity esters boost the tropical impression. Body is light, crisp, without excessive bitterness. Aftertaste shows earthy, dank notes and a lingering bitterness.”

21st Amendment Brewery Down To Earth

**Aroma:** “Oranges, bananas, maybe a little hay. Some toast. Big tangerine notes with coconut and mango. Touch of dank and resinous hops aroma. Strong pine character. Pleasantly assertive hops nose.” **Flavor:** “Flavor is consistent with the aroma. I have to search to find a lot. Tropical fruit and some citrus peel sits on top of a surprisingly sturdy malt foundation. A little bit of caramel in there. The bitterness is delightful, with a long, citrus-like finish. Full fruity hops avor. In contrast to some of the others, hops flavor is what persists into the nish.” **Overall:** “An enjoyable beer, one I would happily quaff at a backyard barbecue. The long citrusy finish is sure to delight many—I’m guessing Citra hops in large amounts. I keep coming back to ‘sweet’ as a descriptor for this beer, but it’s very refreshing and enjoyable. A nicely balanced celebration of hops in session form. Elegantly made.”

Anchor Brewing Co. Crisp Pilsner

Great foam, brilliant yellow-gold. Subtle but complex nose: herbal, floral, spicy, hints of lime zest, supported by light brioche malt. On the palate, fair bitterness checked by light sweetness. Flashes of herbal-zesty hop and lingering wood-spice. Has some zing, yet cohesive. Sublime. Could drink loads.
