Uinta Brewing Baba Black Lager

What the brewers say

“This black lager has flavors of dark coffee, chocolate, and subtle wood smoke. Our black sheep’s color stands out and leads the herd in drinkability.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Moderate rich malt and smoke up front with toasty, biscuit, and slight chocolate malt behind that.”

Flavor: “More toasty popcorn kernel and chocolate malt in the flavor with much less smoke. Moderate sweetness into moderate bitterness in the flavor. Clean lager profile. Finish is slightly bitter with a hint of smoke or peat that lingers. Good balance on the sweetness.”

Overall: “Nice beer overall but some may find the smoky malt out of place in the aroma. The flavor is well executed, and the dry finish is nice. Still, it’s a very light beer with some big flavors that are difficult to corral in such a small package.”

Uinta Brewing Baba

“Beautiful, thick creamy head. Nose offers mild blend of chocolate malt, light roast, low smoke, coffee; moderate spicy-floral hops. A bit hop-forward, with piney, flowery edges; strong roast finishes a touch harsh; burnt notes linger. Some creamy notes with biscuit and toast. A touch astringent. Finish is dry and pleasant.”

Uhl’s Brewing Co Raspricot Shleemies

“Deep pink pour. Brilliant citrus-hop nose with a soft honey note. Full body, with citrus-tropical hop juice shining all the way with a raspberry touch. Intriguing blend of hops and fruit. Pleasant acidity.”

Maplewood Brewing Company Lounge Lager

“A puff of sulfur on the nose. Moderate hop bitterness with a very slight sweetness. Light, neutral grain flavor with a little sweet corn on the back, but finishes clean and dry with a bit of a carbonic bite. Bitterness presents itself in a light earth, dry dirt flavor, accentuating the sulfur note.”
