Jackie O's Berliner Weisse

What the brewers say

“Sour wheat ale fermented with our house Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces cultures.”

What our panel thought

“Pleasant, inviting, and crisp aromatics with light funk, subtle lemon notes, and a hint of clean earthy and floral hops. The flavor comes across undefined with a thin mouthfeel, a light, soft carbonation profile, and a light acidity and tartness.”

What our editors thought

“Light Brett notes on the nose are barely there, leaving a fresh linen or hemp note. The sip is more vivid, with a quick acid hit that fades into lingering citrus.”

New Realm Brewing Co. Tart's Content

“Grandma’s pie crust meets her holiday potpourri...but it works. Cinnamon-spice punch followed by citrus and berry notes dominate aroma and deliver in flavor. Cinnamon integrates well and complements the citric acidity of the beer and orange peel; cranberry tartness tips things just over the edge.”

Garage Brewing Company Fruitopia Berliner Weisse

“Ripe mango aromas, with guava peeking through. Sharp rustic note up front, with assertive passion-fruit notes. Aggressive lactic acid on the finish overpowers, with slight fruit layers coming through.”

The Dudes' Peach Berliner Weisse

**Aroma:** “The strong peach notes, like peach juice, are very inviting. Some mango and sweetness, with some sourness and spice as the head dissipates. Light acidity, and no hops aroma.” **Flavor:** “The thick, sweet peach character is very present throughout the taste. Tartness hides behind the flavor and comes through subtly, with a touch of dissonance. Carbonation is moderate, but could be a bit higher to counter the heavier body. The end of the sip is light and sour, but the finish is very sweet.” **Overall:** “Very peach-forward, bordering on too strong, and the characteristic tartness of kettle sours is very mild by comparison. Perhaps more carbonation would also help bring in more complexity. However, it’s still a very drinkable beer and the fruit-forward flavor and mild acidity are great for those who may not think they like sour beers.”
