MadTree Brewing Brunch So Hard

What the brewers say

Brut IPA with hibiscus and rose hips.

What our panel thought

Pretty pink color. Generic red fruit up front in the aroma. It comes across a bit like raspberry. Lemon comes through a bit more in the flavor. There’s slight sour in the finish as well from the hibiscus. Medium light body and dry finish.

What our editors thought

A savory nose of fleshy tropical fruit avoids ‘sweet’ while embracing ‘fruity.’ It’s not quite as clean and direct as some brut IPAs, but avoids saccharine clichés nonetheless.

Omission Bright Eyed IPA

“Light Earl Grey tea and wort aroma. The hop aroma is a bit muted, but the flavor delivers the hops and has a medium level of supporting bitterness. Clean and refreshing with medium-high carbonation and a semidry finish.”

BKS Artisan Ales Space Nelson

“Ripe red fruit and dank aroma with a cannabis-like quality. Flavors of peaches, mandarin orange, and a touch of dank. Sweetness and bitterness are nicely balanced. Doesn’t stay on the tongue too long and leaves you wanting more.”

Transmitter Brewing W3 Hibiscus Wit

__Aroma:__ “Strawberry and banana with a touch of super overripe fruit sweetness. Very strong coriander aroma with a complex funky tartness—hints of lemongrass, rose, and light fruit.” __Flavor:__ “Lots of red berry and hibiscus with citrus, lemon, tangerine, and light peppery notes followed by a bit of black tea. Body is thick and a bit more chewy than expected for the general style. Finish is dry, slight spicy, and astringent, with persisting tart fruit character.” __Overall:__ “This is not a subtle beer. The spicy and dry character of a wit pairs nicely with the tart fruit character from the hibiscus. Interesting fermentation character adds some complexity, and overall the balance is well done. This beer is about the balance of sweet and sour, and it delivers both with some intensity.”
