What the brewers say

“Foeder- fermented black lager.”

What our panel thought

“Delicate roast-malt notes in the aroma bring subtle hints of chocolate, coffee, and dark caramel along with light floral hops. A brief blast of chocolate sweetness quickly fades into a nice balance of floral hops and coffee-like roast and bitterness. A soft, neutral, wood-like tannic note softens the edges and pulls the bitterness and sweetness together.”

What our editors thought

“Chocolate croissant nose leads into a sweeter sip punctuated by sharper tannic notes that keep it from excess. Bold and sweet with a structuring tannic line.”

Girdwood Brewing Company Crow Creek Gold

Soft, lemony aromatics. Nicely balanced, rounded flavor—soft lemon notes with a decent amount of hop-bitterness to balance it. Tart, lemon-meringue flavor. Well balanced fruity pilsner. Dry finish. Very light, not quite thin. Elegant interpretation. Very enjoyable.

Drowned Lands Brewery Willow

“A tropical coconut party, as aroma pushes the woodsy-dank boundaries with citrus touches. On the sip, a touch of bitterness balances the sweetness, which enhances the fruit. Rough edges of stinging hops; muddled presentation. Fluffy mouthfeel. Dank execution is well done.”

Wayfinder Beer Gravity Drop Baltic Porter

Barrista-borne aroma—roast malt with nice nuances of coffee, toffee, browned toast, brown sugar. Flavor tones it down—sweet coffee and nutty character enhance the bitter/sweet interaction. Lacks the richer malt spectrum; body is a bit mild. Assertive but pleasant hop-bitterness. Smooth warmth.
