Elevation Beer Company Little Mo' Porter

What the brewers say

“No frills, just like our local ski mountain featuring its namesake run.”

What our panel thought

“Great aroma—mocha and toffee, with light toast and moderately bitter chocolate. First sip drops the ball a bit; thin body, acidity not kept in check. Hops lean toward indistinct citrus and pine but balance the malt nicely. Fairly dry finish lingers but is quite pleasant.”

What our editors thought

“Light roast in the nose. Subtle, almost watery coffee note in the sip, with a late hit of caramel malt to add some interest. Low-key.”

“The aroma rocks—bright hibiscus up front and then lime in the follow through. Both hibiscus and lime on the palate. Floral and somewhat spicy notes. Crazy refreshing, cleanly fermented. You could sit in a pool floaty and crush this.”

Twin Span Brewing The Davenporter

“Light nose, with hints of toasted breadcrusts and light caramel. The flavor is more rustic and earthy, with notes of black licorice; toffee dominates, heading almost into a smoky thing. Lager-like crispness is there, but it’s a bit thin. Finish is dry—just a hint of chocolate, with moderate roast notes. Sessionable at the expense of flavor.”

Port Brewing Company Santa’s Little Helper

**Aroma:** “Bittersweet chocolate, toffee, faint piney hops. Dusty cocoa with a coffee finish. Light floral hops notes and stone-fruit esters.” **Flavor:** “Classic imperial stout flavors—moderate hops bitterness, dark roast coffee (but not overly bitter), bittersweet chocolate. Licorice, slight smoke, plum. Burnt figs and Turkish coffee. Strong roast paired with strong alcohol. Plenty of hops bitterness to extend the coffee flavor, and lots of coconut and cocoa extend the malt profile.” **Overall:** “Nice alcohol heat, round creamy sweetness. Tastes like malted chocolate milk balls. Nice roast finish. Lots of crisp bitterness, lingering into the aftertaste. Sweet caramel malt also lingers. The alcohol is a bit hot, which makes me want to take this one slowly.”
