Elevation Beer Company Coconut Oil Man

What the brewers say

“Aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels, brewed with organic coconut.”

What our panel thought

“Chocolate, marshmallow, and a hint of caramel balanced by hints of oak-like vanilla and a touch of coconut in the aroma. Pronounced vanilla and coconut in the flavor complement the chocolate malt, with a touch of oak and a nice boozy warmth in the finish to round things out.”

What our editors thought

“Low-key roast notes resonate with a bit of coconut sweetness above. Light bourbon imparts boozy sweetness while the coconut highlights the barrel notes. Favors drinkability over intensity.”

Elevation Beer Company Summerville

“The aroma rocks—bright hibiscus up front and then lime in the follow through. Both hibiscus and lime on the palate. Floral and somewhat spicy notes. Crazy refreshing, cleanly fermented. You could sit in a pool floaty and crush this.”

Cellarmaker Brewing Company Regeneration Cycle

“Aroma of earthy chocolate, big vanilla, moderate coconut. Flavor is quite sweet, almost cloying, but offset by bitterness and spicy alcohol—notes of chocolate, coconut, vanilla. Viscous, mouth-coating. Long, sweet finish.”

Elevation Beer Oil Man Imperial Stout

Barrel-forward with up-front vanilla, dark fruit, alcohol, bittersweet chocolate, toasted marshmallow. Sweet flavor, creamy, fading into bitterness and warmth. Aggressive barrel but with the malty bones to support it. Chocolate liqueur character. Big, unrefined, complex, and good for sharing.
