Firestone Walker Brewing Co Cali Squeeze Blood Orange

What the brewers say

“Brewed with blood orange for juicy orange and fresh citrus flavors.”

What our panel thought

“Light bready notes and big blood-orange character greet the nose. That blood-orange flavor dominates the flavor, with fresh juice and moderate zest-oil character. Some bready malt notes and hints of vanilla and black pepper manage to peek through. Somewhat dry finish.”

What our editors thought

“Singular blood-orange nose, but the sip layers a softer wheat body and buffering yeast notes with the pronounced fruit addition. Fruit-focused without losing sight of the beer.”

Firestone Walker Brewing Co Cali Squeeze Ruby Grapefruit

“Ferocious fruit bomb, with loads of grapefruit, tropical punch, gooseberry, melon. The grapefruit flavor manages to come across more genuine than synthetic with a hint of grapefruit flesh/pith adding just enough bitterness to balance the citric sweetness.”

21st Amendment Brewery Blood Orange Brew Free or Die

**Aroma:** “Intense, almost singular citrus punch to the nose. It’s oily, like citronella, with some earthiness and spice. Getting some zest, fresh-squeezed juice, and some lemon. It’s so sharp and fresh that everything else is lost in the background.” **Flavor:** “The orange-juice flavors are so strong that they almost hide a seemingly decent base IPA. The flavors are very tart, juicy, and zesty. Some resinous hops flavors that might also be from the citrus rind. A little sweetness from the malt and light-bodied, with very fresh flavor.” **Overall:** “The orange dominates the flavors in the beer, and it needs more depth. It’s very singular and captured the whole gestalt of the orange. Still, it’s crisp, fresh, and refreshing. The brightness of the orange added a dimension to the base beer that was welcoming.”

Left Hand Brewing Company Wook Bait

“Soft, pleasant, lemony aroma with some spikier grapefruit-punch notes. Lighter on the palate than expected, lively and drying, with citrus-pith hop flavor and a resinous bitterness. Very hop-forward flavor with low bitterness and a lingering grassy, citrus note in the finish.”
