Enegren Brewing Lagertha

What the brewers say

"Lagertha is our take on a classic Czech-style Pilsner. Brewed with traditional European ingredients plus American Mosaic Hops, this is a hoppy twist on a classic style."

What our panel thought

Aroma has a little spicy hops but also smells like Mosaic with a hint of black pepper and also some corn. The body is a little too heavy. Definitely crisp and dry despite the heavy body. Good flavor overall but needs to be a tad lighter in body."

What our editors thought

"Progressively hopped nose melds PNW hops flair with a firm Pils base. It's colorful and vivacious while properly grounded."

Enegren Brewing The Lightest One

The malt bill is firm and crisp, lending itself to an easy beer-drinking experience. There's a slight grassy quality that makes this a fun outside, springtime beer that you'll have more than one of.

Soul & Spirits Brewery Grist Ain't Groceries

“If you approach this as a summer barleywine, it works. Somewhat spice-driven nose. Bright up front morphs to a plump raisin, plum profile. Bready malt really is needed to go with the rye, which is present enough. The mouthfeel is full, but attenuation is right and avoided going too sweet. It feels like a Bavarian got lost in London and tried to turn a helles into a barleywine.”

Deep Ellum Rye Pils

**Aroma:** “Pepper-like rye spice hits up front, with a bit of cinnamon and a medium, woody hops aroma. Some fruity, Kölsch-like esters, with a little citrus, apple, pear, and banana. Some biscuit toast in the back.” **Flavor:** “The prominent malt body has some nice biscuit sweetness. A little pepper character adds complexity, but it’s not too bitter. Detectable yeast esters of ripe pear and apple balance the bitterness of the hops. Finishes clean, smooth, and crisp with great carbonation.” **Overall:** “I loved the carbonation in this beer. The rye seemed to fit and work with the malt. Lots of flavor that’s complex and interesting, although perhaps too full for a Pilsner. This beer is about the rye, and the hops do not get in the way.”
