Crooked Stave Mama Bear's Sour Cherry Pie

What the brewers say

"The result of blending carefully chosen batches of Origins with a heavy-handed addition of Montmorency cherries."

What our panel thought

"Equal parts leather, barnyard funk, and complementary tart cherry on the aroma give way to a similarly well-balanced flavor profile of roast, toast, and smoky malt, leather funk, acidity, sourness, and tartness."

What our editors thought

"Cherry and lime on the nose with a hint of cucumber, curry, burnt toast, and strong tannic wood notes. On the sip, the acidity is bracing with lime and cola notes."

Destihl Here Gose Nothing

**Aroma:** “Big on coriander, with some mild pepper spice and citrus aromas of orange and tangerine. Tart with a bit of funk and moderate acidity on the nose. A hint of salt, sweet pale malt aroma, and some earthiness.” **Flavor:** “Complex, unique tartness up front, with hints of lemon juice, which works surprisingly well with the moderate level of salt. Nice, soft malt background that balances the tartness, and no hops bitterness. Huge coriander, with a SweeTarts mix of malt and sour, and a big salty kiss that lingers into the aftertaste. Every sip hits pretty strong, but some of the other notes have to build to be noticed, like the phenolic spiciness and ester complexity.” **Overall:** “Fairly balanced and well-done, although a bit heavy-handed with the salt. Lots of balanced complexity, with tartness that’s supported by a tasty base beer.”

10 Barrel Brewing Co. Crush Cucumber Sour

“Sweet cucumber nose with a touch of watermelon juice and rind. Clean, gentle acidity tempered by earthy cucumber. Bright acidity helps cut some of the sweetness and maintain drinkability. Would like more carbonation, but overall well-executed.”

Sun King Brewery Cherry Busey

__Aroma:__ “Big *Brett* funk with a medium cherry ester profile. Dark cherries and young *Brett.* Some subtle toasted malt quality (almost graham cracker and cinnamon) complements the funk well. Peppery spicy notes with the supporting cherry fruitness.” __Flavor:__ “The combination of dark cherries with a peppery spiciness is very intriguing. This was supported by balanced tartness. The rich bready character blends well with the cherry esters. Acidity is restrained, but it brightens the finish nicely. Just a touch of sour in the tail.” __Overall:__ “The balance of dark cherry, pepper, and tartness is a welcomed change. The juxtaposition of contrasting flavors and aromas is unexpected and enjoyable. There are some nice things going on in the is beer with the balance of fruit and malt. Very tasty.”
