Pondaseta Brewing Co. Jamie Tart

What the brewers say

“Aged in raspberry brandy barrels. Dark chocolate, fresh raspberry, wood, brandy.”

What our panel thought

“Barrel dominates the nose—both spirit and fruit are there. Heavy on the raspberry notes. Sip brings in well-needed chocolate. Very rich, but not overly sweet. Thick and chewy.”

What our editors thought

“Chocolate with strong, rich, full berry and red-grape notes in the nose. Bready chocolate brownie flavor plays beautifully with the hearty berry notes, as the sharper end of the berry flavor hones the sweet stout body.”

Pondaseta Brewing Co. Sky Pie - Pecan Porter

“Rich pecan aroma takes me to my mom’s kitchen making pecan pie. The vanilla at first complements, but is a touch strong in the mix. The flavor brings in some welcome caramel notes. Pleasant, but there’s a slight artificial edge to the vanilla.”

The Big Friendly Vanilla Boom

“Black with a wisp of brown head. Decadent nose of brownie batter, vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon, espresso. Roasted maltiness adds complexity. Espresso, dark chocolate, vanilla, treacle, rum, vintage port. The age is there with some raisins and amaretto. Heavyweight body, with a lot of residual sugars, but not cloying. Alcohol is warming but not hot. A great beer.”

Pondaseta Brewing Co. Rye Barrel Aged Castle Black

“Cab-like aromas of huckleberry, black pepper, bread crust, and a hint of roasted malt. Pleasant alcohol in flavor juxtaposed with vanilla, caramel, and chocolate flavors, with mild roast supporting. A tad thick, but plenty drinkable in small pours.”
