What the brewers say

Delicate hops and golden malts give way to firm bitterness and a clean finish.

What our panel thought

Pleasantly assertive hop-forward aroma, rife with pine needle, orange peel, resin. Flavor returns us to the land of golden ale, with clean, lightly malty flavor and surprisingly restrained bitterness given the aroma punch. For those who like double IPAs but want something easier sipping.

What our editors thought

Bright, earthy hops nose with touches of marmalade and cut grass. The sip is faintly bitter and remarkably soft given the hop aroma. An accessible yet seemingly timeless American craft baseline, with a clean finish that invites another sip.

In the nose, pine and candied-orange hops play well with light, caramel-malt sweetness; notes of passion fruit, guava, dank cellar. Flavor is surprisingly light and soft—low bitterness, light malt, easy drinking. Soft, clean finish with notes of raspberry, orange, overripe tropical fruit, and dankness. Well attenuated, with the balance of a pale ale. This beer would get me in trouble.

Seventh Son Humulus Nimbus

Aroma: “Resinous and piney with lemon supporting. Clean malt bill. Nice orange and clementine. Very subdued aroma overall.” Flavor: “West Coast hops to boot, showcasing the piney, resinous character with a touch of light citrus. Light bready malt sweetness pairs well with the softly orange, lemon, and resinous hops character. Finish is very clean, with a pleasant lingering bitterness and pine, lemon hops notes.” Overall: “Nice flow of slightly sweet citrus into the strong hops bitterness. The aroma is a little unassuming, but there’s really nice hops complexity that lingers with the dry, bitter finish. The malt profile isn’t particularly complex, but it has enough underlying bready sweetness to balance the bitterness. Clean and well-done, while deceptively simple—it’s hard to make a beer taste this effortless. Dry, crisp, very well- balanced.”

Seventh Son Brewing Co Stone Fort

Nose of rich toast, caramel, and touch earth and red berry. The flavor gets more distinctly malty, with rich caramel, toasted bread, light smoke; spicy bitterness is nicely balance. Finish is crisp but with just enough sweetness.
