What the brewers say

"Milkshake IPA brewed with lactose and conditioned on passion fruit, guava, and vanilla beans."

What our panel thought

"Massive tropical fruit up front—tart, with footy guava weirdness. Moderately sweet and rich; boozy tropical punch. Tart fruit and medium bitterness cut through what might have been cloying otherwise. Chewy body and sweetness are pleasantly restrained."

What our editors thought

"Intensely tropical fruit-and-vanilla nose with a few sweaty touches broadcasts a dessert beer. The sip isn’t as sweet as the nose suggests, its round body a touch watery. Vanilla smooths the rougher edges for drinkability."

WeldWerks Double Guava Milkshake

Deep orange color with chunks. Distinctive guava nose with vanilla. Balanced mouthfeel between the lactose and fruit while allowing the base beer to show itself. Sweet by design, but restrained.

King Harbor Brewing Co Between the Devil and the Deep

“Coconut hop profile sideswipes right up next to citrus pith both in the nose and flavor. Beautiful and pillowy soft body; delicate sweetness underlies a mix of tropical hop character. Understated, but very well crafted and balanced.”

Hop Butcher for the World Telehopic

__Aroma:__ “Very faint for the style. Restrained orange and pale malt. Subtle mango, pineapple, and passion fruit in the background. Really light pine and maybe a touch of garlic.” __Flavor:__ “Tropical fruit throughout, especially pineapple and fruit punch, with some more subtle orange and a touch of peach/apricot. Moderate-to-high sweetness with high bitterness to offset. Fairly boozy with alcohol warmth. Tastes like a restrained West Coast IPA. The chewy body is there, but the juice-forward flavors take a backseat. Sweet for the style, but not cloying. Finishes with a touch of lingering bitterness.” __Overall:__ “Aside from the relatively high residual sweetness, this beer is really likeable. The tropical fruit complexity is a fun take on the style. It’s more of a tropical cocktail than what I would call ‘juicy,’ but tasty nonetheless.”
