Ecliptic Brewing Starburst IPA

What the brewers say

"Brewed with Amarillo, Azacca, Centennial, Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops."

What our panel thought

"Enticing, sweet, bright nose: lemon peel, lemon drop candy, orange, grapefruit, light malt. Tastes sweet up front—nicely balanced bready malt drawing out orange-grapefruit—rolling into firm bitterness, getting slightly rough in the finish and lingering. Low alcoholic heat as it warms. Want the hop flavors to sing louder."

What our editors thought

"White grape, kiwi, light pineapple nose, crisply defined. Soft tropical bitterness drives the sip, rounded, not overbearing, finishing quickly to let a bit of light malt shine."

King Harbor Brewing Co Between the Devil and the Deep

“Coconut hop profile sideswipes right up next to citrus pith both in the nose and flavor. Beautiful and pillowy soft body; delicate sweetness underlies a mix of tropical hop character. Understated, but very well crafted and balanced.”

Reuben’s Brews Triple Crush

Dank aroma, earthy, with strong citrus notes of grapefruit, mandarin—and jammy apricot, as it warms. Bitterness wallops taste buds, then nuances emerge: pithy, warming, mixing dank citrus with tropical stone-fruit jam. Drinks smoothly, without sticky heft.

Coronado Brewing Company Stingray IPA

**Aroma:** “Earthy, piney, grassy hops notes. Hint of biscuit malt. Orange peel, lemon-drop candy, hints of scallions, melon, very subtle grainy malt notes. Overall suggestion is of brightness.” **Flavor:** “Initial punch of fruity hops flavor that diminishes quickly. Tropical fruit on the tongue more than in the nose. Substantial evergreen character is a nice surprise. Good creamy mouthfeel adds to the overall palate character. Bitter finish is grapefruity and smooth. Malt plays a supporting role but doesn’t get in the way. The green-onion note sits on the tongue through the finish. A lot of spruce and pine notes.” **Overall:** “Moderately malty IIPA, very strong on the pine/resin side with a touch of citrus on the nose. A deceptively drinkable double IPA! Great blend of classic American IPA character along with some New-World flavors that make for a delightful tasting experience.”
