Foothills Brewing Torch Pilsner

What the brewers say

"True to the tradition of Bohemian Pilsner, delicate mouthfeel and rich full finish with subtle spicy notes from Czech Saaz hops."

What our panel thought

A wonderful balance of spicy Saaz hops and Pilsner malt. Crisp and refreshing yet not superlight bodied. Just the right amount of hops bitterness and spice plays great with a tasty Pilsner malt backbone. A little on the sweeter side for a Pilsner, but definitely not too sweet. Overall very crushable."

What our editors thought

"A bright mineral nose and light body produce a vivacious and energetic sip. It's bold yet light and characterful with a strong but restrained hops character. Balanced on the light side."

Brick West Brewing Co. Brick West Pilsner

“Crisp, herbal, citrusy Noble hops draw one in with excitement. Medium bitterness, day-old tea bag (on the pleasant side) hop character, clean fermentation.”

Hop Butcher For the World Supreme Being

“Cracker and bready malt up front; classic herbal, grassy Noble-hop profile. Slight sulfur gives the impression of freshness. Subdued flavor compared to the aroma, but more bready malt and herbal hops. Dry, low residual sweetness, maybe a touch thin. Very classic and well executed. Would be very approachable on a hot summer day.”

Alvarado Street Peninsula Pilsner

Aroma: “Slight phenolic and resin notes up front, almost plastic-like or waxed candy. Moderate perfume and fruity floral hops aromas. Very subtle biscuit and bread malt.” Flavor: “Similar to the aroma, with moderate-to-high perfume and sweet spicy hops flavors. Just enough biscuit and bready malt to keep the balance in check. The spiciness from the hops dances off of the medium carbonation to help lighten what feels like a higher gravity beer.” Overall: “The hops definitely take the lead here. A beer that overthinks its hops choice, which ultimately distracts from a decent malt profile and clean ferment. Not a Pils to drink all day, but tasty nonetheless.”
