Wolf's Ridge Brewing Maple Whiskey Double Barrel Dire Wolf

What the brewers say

“Aged for a year in bourbon barrels, then another year in maple-syrup barrels.”

What our panel thought

“Aroma is mostly oak and whiskey with some vanilla, fruity esters, chocolate, roasted malt in the background. Initial taste reveals strong alcohol balanced with sweet, almost syrupy, malt. Maple comes through in the aftertaste. Finishes quite sweet.”

What our editors thought

“Vinous nose pulls fortified wine notes with meaty and sweet bourbon. Sweet vinous bourbon in the flavor is a bit too assertive, with toasty crust alongside, but it’s hard to shake the sweetness.”

Broken Strings Brewery Sugared Stout Gang Peanut

Massive salty peanut butter nose with some milk chocolate and light fig/prune fruitiness. Hints of espresso and cocoa. Creaminess of the peanut dries out the finish and lingers. Full body, low carb, smooth alcohol, highlights the peanut well.

Wolf's Ridge Brewing Moscatel Barrel Magellan

“Oak-forward aroma, with roast, toast, and vinous brightness. Light acidity in flavor brightens the overall impression. Lots of sweet chocolate and caramel malt, with moderate sweetness balanced by oak tannins and alcohol warmth. Strong grappa flavor bonded to the stouty bits. Every sip is surprising.”

Wolf's Ridge Brewing Chocolate Port Barrel Dire Wolf

“Bitter chocolate nose mixes with vanilla and red wine. Intoxicating flavors of smooth chocolate, vanilla, and dark roast, with a dark-fruit backbone. Thick, not quite chewy. Port barrel adds complexity throughout. Smooth and balanced, delicious and well executed.”
