What the brewers say

“For this specialty, we use old and young lambic that has aged in our oak casks for 6 months. Then we add black cherries for a second fermentation. We then clarify, filter, and bottle it.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Kind of funky with lots of sweet cherry aroma. As it warms slightly more barrel notes emerge. Smells like red wine. Sweet cherry fruity character dominates the nose.”

Flavor: “Strong cherry flavor well matched with smooth acidity and light level of sweetness. Sweet but blends with a slight lemon tartness that keeps it from being too sweet. Very light funky note. Nice tartness/acidic/lactic character hits the roof of the mouth and adds nice complexity. High wine notes of cherry and moderate citrus notes, grapefruit and lime. Light carbonic bite then nice hit of acidity. Linger is dry with lasting fruity notes.”

Overall: “Very juicy with a very light funky character. A well-done kriek with balance that was enjoyable. The subtleness blended well with the beer from the sweet cherry notes to the tart lactic character in this beer.”
