What the brewers say

"Crimson and Basis are blended in barrels and aged in Catawba grapes. Jammy grape aromas permeate, with hints of charred oak and petite sourness."

What our panel thought

"Golden/orange, nearly bright pour with solid retention. Well-balanced flavor. Acidity dominates overall, well backed by light grape sweetness and grape-skin tannins. Slight leathery Brett in the background, with some pear and stone-fruit esters emerging. A very wine-dominant flavor. Light wheat-like malt notes back the acidity with some sweetness. Finishes quite dry. Light wood and grape tannins build a nice rounded finish."

What our editors thought

"Vanillin and oak tannin, mellow East Coast grapes, and iced pastry dough on the nose. The flavor brings more wood notes with the brief pleasure of grapes that are quickly scrubbed by a sharp tannic note."
