Aslan Brewing Co. Coastal Pils

What the brewers say

“Brewed in similar fashion to the Northern German–style pilsner.”

What our panel thought

“Amazing aroma, classic and clean. Spicy, herbal hops: lemongrass, sage, dill. Clean cracker/white-bread malt profile. Very soft hop bitterness. Earthy compost and dill on the finish. Nice and dry. One could crush this beer on the Frisbee golf course.”

What our editors thought

“Bright Noble nose offers a crisply floral bouquet with lavender, camelia, and jasmine. On the tongue, malt offers a delicate foil to the light hops bitterness that lingers pleasantly into the finish. Expertly crafted and beautifully balanced.”

Modern Times - The Belmont Fermentorium Oracolo

Pretty pale gold with a shower of bubbles. Fantastic, punchy nose that is hop-dominant but has enough grainy pilsner malt to balance. Heavy dose of earthy, floral hops just bursting with flavor. Some malt holds it together, and it finishes dry with a pleasant lingering finish. Just enough bitterness on the tongue for you to want to come back and have another sip.

Modern Times - The Belmont Fermentorium Foamer Pils

Compelling nose with herbal-peppery hops, floral notes, and slight minerality; grassy vegetal hints. On the palate, supportive but subdued malt sweetness, clean, but distracted by that grassy-vegetal character, which accentuates a dryness that seems to strip away nuance. Clean and crushable.

Drake's Brewing Co. Flyway Pils

“Aroma of soapy herbal hops, doughy bread, faint fruit, bite of flint, touch of sulfur. Lightly toasted soup cracker in the flavor, mineral-laden. Full body. Could drink a lot but looking for more liveliness and bitterness.”
