Side Project Coexpressionalism Kriek

What the brewers say

"This lambic-inspired beer expresses the house character of both Side Project and de Garde."

What our panel thought

"Cherry aroma is light; wood, hay, leather, smoked black tea. Cherry, wood, and leather, all prominent in flavor. Sourness is bracing but not overly harsh; lingering spice, drying tannins. Rich, complex, unique."

What our editors thought

"Deep, rich, remarkably clear almond and cherry notes sell the kriek ideal. The sip is gorgeous—exquisite balance of grounded funk, fruit sweetness, and acidity. Distinctive."

3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek

**Aroma:** “Nice tart and sweet cherry character. Some earthy spicy notes that add complexity. Moderate cherry notes. Slight tart note as it warms up. Strong sour cherry aroma.” **Flavor:** “The balance of the sweetness to the tartness in this beer is really nice. It is not too bold but the nice sharp lactic notes bring boldness to this beer. The carbonation is really nice and helps lift the beer as well. The sweet cherries help to finish the beer and keep it juicy and sweet. Very nice sour cherry character. Not too much barnyard, but still sour complexity.” **Overall:** “Very enjoyable and a nice balance of the tartness to the sweetness. The showcase of both the cherry and the lactic tartness was very nice. As it warms and the carbonation starts to dissipate, more of the cherry note comes out. Light goat and horse blanket.”

3 Fonteinen Homage Blend No. 110, Season 18/19

“Raspberry and cranberry-like aromas with sourdough bread and leathery funk. Bold sour raspberry slowly fades into a mouthcoating funk with hints of leather, smoke, and a light oaky tannin.”

Side Project Brewing Coexpressionalism Blauw

Good blackberry, blueberry aroma—blueberry cobbler comes to mind. Fruit is paired with a bit of delicately spiced graham cracker. Flavor is drier than expected from the nose, losing some of the malt and shifting the balance to the tart and slightly bitter fruit. Medium acidity and mild earth funk. Dry, puckering finish.
