Burial Beer Fall of the Damned (2019)
What the brewers say
"Aged in steel with marionberries and blackberries, then bottle conditioned. The final expression is sticky blackberry, jammy raspberry, and pie-spiced Beaujolais."
What our panel thought
"Fresh blackberry/raspberry dominates aroma. Jammy. Light balanced acidity. Notes of Brett leather, wood, and raspberry seed. Deep ruby, lightly hazy pour with very good retention. Flavor is acidic up front, well-balanced. Just a touch of wheaty dough and bread. Fruit complexity very good and generally blends with the acid well, though it does tend to dominate the beer overall. Finish is dry and very tart but clears off the palate relatively quickly."
What our editors thought
"Big jammy berry notes in the nose—bold leather, burnt bread crust. In the flavor—lightly tannic wood/berry note, restrained acidity, round rich berry, toasty malt—a heady mix of malt and berry that borders on red wine."
