Modern Times Beer Fruitlands

What the brewers say

“A heavy dose of passion fruit and guava turns the whole thing into a wall-to-wall tropical fruit fiesta.”

What our panel thought

“Strong citrusy passion fruit with light tropical guava hints; layers of butyric acid, barnyard funk. Guava and passion fruit with elevated salt coat the palate. Fruit flavor dominates. Well-carbed; brings forward the acidity. Somewhat one dimensional but enjoyable and refreshing.”

What our editors thought

“Confident tropical notes in the aroma neither scream nor whimper. The sip is one of the brightest of its kind, as the initial sharp hit of fruit acidity lends a definition and structure throughout.”

New Image Brewing Apricot & Peach Maceration

“Dank, footy peach character. Aromas create the image of biting into a peach picked fresh from the tree—you can almost smell the fuzz. Puckeringly sour, until your palate fatigues and you can taste the lingering fruit and sweetness on the finish. Musty peach character gives an impression of mixed fermentation, with some pepper and earthy notes.”

Wiley Roots Brewing Co. Orange Blossom Slush

“Massive orange Creamsicle nose. Obvious orange and vanilla notes; vanilla maybe more than a bit over the top. Pleasant tartness rounds the beer out. Citrus notes come across as natural and fresh; vanilla is earthy-sweet and complementary. Crisp and enjoyable. One dimensional but really well-done.”

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery Oyster Stout

Soft and unassuming nose with a chocolaty aroma with some ambiguous dark fruits—plum or dark cherry. Pleasant middle-of-the-road stout character with a somewhat earthy, saline note. Flavor is more of the same dark-fruit dominance with a dry, bitter finish. Good balance, medium-bodied with lingering chocolate sweet-ness and a roasted bitter finish.
