Urban South Brewery Tangerine Pop

What the brewers say

“A kettle-soured wheat ale, aged on 450 pounds of tangerine juice.”

What our panel thought

“Abundant fresh citrus aroma of tangerine zest, underlying white pepper and rose petals—pleasant and inviting. Flavor is a tug of war between bright, fresh citrus and heavier malty sweetness. Acidity creates an unusual sense of body, accentuates the fruit nicely without burning. Earthy pulp astringency, high carbonation.”

What our editors thought

“Subtle, brackish, vaguely citrus nose leads into a sip with a bright, juicy punch of tangerine acidity, softened slightly by light malt body. Invigorating in its boldness.”

Resident Culture Farm Mentality

No carbonation. Light, balanced acidity in the aroma; light floral notes; some moderate wood and a whiskey-like spirit that becomes dominant as it warms. Moderate, balanced acid. Nice complexity; a hint of leathery funk, moderate pear, white grape esters. Light woody vanilla in finish. Clean, elegant.

New Terrain Brewing Co. Walk in the Parfait

“Citrus and berry abound with hints of lemon, grapefruit, raspberry, and blackberry. Semi-firm sour smoothie profile hits the mouth with notes of lemon and light raspberry, with vanilla tying things together. Lactose-driven body and mouthfeel complement berry-forward fruit flavors and temper the acidity.”

Grand Teton Brewing Teton Ale

Welcoming aroma of light caramel, toasted bread, raisin, pine, and orange zest. The flavor is drier than the nose would suggest—an enjoyable clash of malt (light caramel, biscuit) and hop (pine, resin, earth). Light body. Bitter but crisp and dry finish. Well-crafted.
