GOAL Brewing Bibingka Latte

What the brewers say

“Dessert stout treated with toasted coconut, Congolese vanilla beans, Mostra Philippine Heritage coffee beans.”

What our panel thought

“Assertive coconut and strong coffee hit the nose immediately. Almond Joy in a glass. It’s positively wild, super-pungent. Dark chocolate, vanilla, coconut mingle in a complex dance. Sweet, chewy, and big but at the same time, silky smooth and pleasant. Slight cinnamon spice provides nice depth. Sweeter than grandma on a Christmas morning, but if you can get beyond the sweetness, this is a fantastic and refined beer with layers of flavors to love.”

What our editors thought

“Absolutely stunning coffee note in the aroma—macadamia nut with a tropical floral highlight—as well as loads of toasted coconut. Thick, sweet, and rich in the sip but boldly balanced with smoothly polished roast-coffee bitterness, gorgeous coconut caramel midtones, and a drinkability that belies its strength and sweetness. It’s both indulgent and very drinkable, a potent and artful combination.”

King Harbor Brewing Co French Toast Latte

“Sugary nose with layers of rich chocolate, touches of cinnamon, light maple. It would be your bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch if condensed down, well balanced by a nice fresh coffee element with hints of brown sugar and molasses hiding in the background. Chocolate-forward base beer offers the perfect canvas for the dessert-focused stout. Coffee reemerges in the finish creating a nice palate-cleansing bitterness, bookending the mid-palate sweetness. Thick, sugary mouthfeel requires slow sipping, yet it remains highly drinkable.”

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery Kentucky Christmas Morning

**Aroma:** “Suddenly, it’s Christmas! Cinnamon/clove/nutmeg spice with a bit of ginger, too. Moderately strong coffee. Moderate vanilla and caramel. A bit of chile aroma with a touch of chocolate. As it warms, more earthy coffee notes with a light amount of alcohol.” **Flavor:** “The ginger is stronger than the nose, but I still get the other Christmas spices in spades, along with vanilla. The roast malt grounds it with an earthy bitterness which emphasizes the perception of gingerbread. Mild cocoa and a hint of coconut with mild warming alcohol. Moderate coffee.” **Overall:** “This is the perfect balance of coffee, chile peppers, and sweetness in a low roast, high chocolate beer! The coffee notes are earthy, which plays well with the light amount of roast astringency. Nice alcohol warming stays in the background and really highlights the coffee.”

Melvin Brewing Eureka (House of Flying Barrels) Night Visions - Vanilla Latte

“Big dark-roast coffee aroma up front. Fairly subtle vanilla plays up the latte character. Roast and chocolate character in the flavor works well with the coffee. The beer is on and off your tongue surprisingly fast, with only a touch of coffee lingering.”
