Good Land Brewing Co. Cafe Mexicano XO

What the brewers say

“Imperial stout aged in ex-tequila barrels, then blended with freshly roasted coffee and cinnamon.”

What our panel thought

“Cinnamon dominates the nose, continues into the sip, and on through the finish. Coffee is noticeable but plays second chair with chocolate, caramel, vanilla notes. A green-pepper note on the finish. Boozy heat is restrained and enhances the cinnamon spiciness.”

What our editors thought

“Big coffee and cinnamon in the aroma, with just a touch of pepper. Spice drives the sip with a drying tannic quality, highlighting the woodiness with light body and low sweetness.”

Good Land Brewing Co. 120 Shilling

“Big red-apple and toffee aroma with notes of oak. Pastry malt and caramel flavors. Medium spicy alcohol, dates, figs. Low banana and pear esters. Rich toffee and caramel malt.”

Living Waters Brewing Company Euphrates

Bold aromatics of milk chocolate, caramel, and coffee in the nose are complimented by a healthy suggestion of a boozy melange of spirits. Dark chocolate coffee bean in combination with boozy raisiny oak. The sip hits first with a nice sweet chocolate note that fades into a lightly bitter roasted coffee flavor like a nice mocha. As that bittersweet flavor fades, the oaky booze notes emerge, with hints of vanilla, rum, and whiskey, and that boozy heat lingers into the finish. Very low carbonation, remains warm without being hot.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. BA Awaken, My Love

“Aroma of espresso, red fruits, dark chocolate, vanilla, red hots. Surprisingly intense pepper, cinnamon character with coffee, honey, espresso, cassis. Big and sweet, but not cloying. Nobody is missing the alcohol.”
